Financial crisis campaign launched to help teachers

Teachers who are struggling to cope with the effects of the economic crisis may be able to take advantage of a new campaign.

Charity Teacher Support Network (TSN) has launched a financial crisis initiative, in a bid to help relieve some of the strain felt by school staff as recession looms.

Those in difficult situations can benefit from speaking to trained coaches and counsellors by ringing the organisation's helpline.

They can offer advice about managing debt and structuring financial commitments, as well as planning a coping strategy.

If concerns about money are not combated, noted TSN, other problems could arise.

"Financial difficulty can severely exacerbate other wellbeing problems, such as stress, anxiety and depression that are not uncommon in the profession," it stated.

The number of interactions with teachers registered by TSN in the third quarter of 2008 rose by 9,000 compared to the same time last year.
