Buckinghamshire academic says A level grades will plateau

An academic in one of the top teaching jobs in Buckinghamshire has claimed A level pass rates will soon stop rising.

Professor Alan Smithers, of the Centre for Education and Employment Research at the University of Buckingham, claims that once the rate has peaked exam questions will get harder.

He told the Independent that it is impossible for rates to exceed more than a certain figure, he explained: "There are always going to be people who enter the exam who don't finish."

It is possible that this year's projected 97.5 per cent success rate will be the highest ever, as university staff are pressing for the exam to be refreshed, the paper has claimed.

Schoolchildren who wish to remain in education either sit their A-levels or equivalent qualifications as sixth-formers in their school, or move to colleges of further education.

The government is encouraging school leavers who prefer vocational courses to begin apprenticeship schemes instead.

Teaching jobs in Buckinghamshire are available for people wanting to work in primary and secondary schools.
