Schools investing in new dinner payment methods

Many schools are now investing in card payment schemes and fingerprint recognition to cut down on queues for school dinners, according to a local news report.

Packmoor Primary School, in Stoke-on-Trent, [del commas] even has a biometric reader machine that pupils simply scan their fingers on. It enters a personal number and payment is automatically deducted at checkout, This Is Staffordshire has reported.

"The machine also records what their child is eating. It reduces the queues, and in the future we are hoping to use the records to introduce incentives for pupils who eat more healthy options," said head teacher Dave Clarke.

In other news, five schools across Coventry and Warwickshire have been awarded around £14,000 for developing small forests in their grounds, a news report has said.

Manor Park Primary and Castle Wood schools in Coventry were given the Forestry Commission grants along with Tanworth in Arden School, near Studley, Alveston School, Tiddington, near Stratford, and Salford Priors school, near Stratford, the Coventry Telegraph has reported.
