Erdington school to use green vehicles

Birmingham authorities have backed plans under which pupils at a special school in Erdington will be transported by eco-friendly vehicles, a local news report has said.

The electric-powered vehicles, which are to become part of the fleet offered by West Midlands Special Needs Transport, will take students to and from Wilson Stuart School, in Perry Common Road, according to the Sutton Coldfield Observer.

"What is particularly pleasing is the pledge by the preferred bidder to use a fleet of vehicles of which almost 10 per cent will be electrically-powered," said councillor Les Lawrence, cabinet member for children, young people and families.

In other news, a think tank made up of 22 children from across the UK has presented its manifesto for a greener Britain to MPs, according to a local news report.

The think tank, called Generation Green, was set up by British Gas as part of their Generation Green schools programme. The children had meetings with Ed Miliband, secretary or state for energy and climate change and Greg Barker, shadow minister for climate change, according to Digital News Agency.
