Road safety awards for Haringey schools

Two schools in Haringey have been awarded road safety accolades for their efforts to encourage pupils to walk or cycle to school, according to a local news report.

Earlsmead primary school, in Broad Lane, Tottenham, and Our Lady of Muswell Roman Catholic school, in Pages Lane, picked up the Transport for London Sustainable Level Accreditation Award for their commitment to environmentally-friendly travel, the Haringey Independent has reported.

"I am really proud of these young people and the teachers who made the effort to produce fantastic School Travel Plans which make the journey to and from school safer for everyone," said councillor John Bevan, cabinet member for housing, environment and conservation.

In other news, five schools across Coventry and Warwickshire have been awarded around £14,000 for developing small forests in their grounds, a news report has said.

Manor Park Primary and Castle Wood schools in Coventry were given the Forestry Commission grants along with Tanworth in Arden School, near Studley, Alveston School, Tiddington, near Stratford, and Salford Priors school, near Stratford, the Coventry Telegraph has reported.
