1,000 school bursaries to help primary schools save £30,000

The government has unveiled plans to appoint 1,000 school bursars over the next four years to help primary schools save up to £30,000 a year, a news report has said.

Each of the business managers will cover four or five schools, offering advice on a series of issues, including the effective management of budgets, maximisation of resources and securing additional income, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Schools secretary Ed Balls said schools bursars "help heads save money and allow them to maintain the record numbers of teachers and teaching assistants in classrooms across the country."

In other news, the government has announced the allocation of £450,000 of funding in a bid to guarantee the safe transportation of Cumbrian pupils after flooding affected local schools, a news report has said.

Minister of State for Schools and Learning Vernon Coaker said the extra money will ensure that students can travel to schools with "as little distruption" as possible, according to Business Education.
