Mathematics success for Sidcot pupils

A school in Winscombe is celebrating the success of its pupils in the national Senior Maths Challenge, according to a local news report.

A total of 126 students from Sidcot School participated in the competition, which is designed to make pupils think about problems. Six of them were awarded gold certificates, 26 silver and 22 bronze, the Evening Post has reported.

Three pupils of the school, which gained a place in the national final of the Senior Team Maths Challenge in London, qualified for the first round of the British Mathematical Olympiad, a three-and-a-half hour exam taken by 1,309 students across the country.

In other news, two schools in Haringey have been awarded road safety accolades for their efforts to encourage pupils to walk or cycle to school, according to a local news report.

Earlsmead primary school, in Broad Lane, Tottenham, and Our Lady of Muswell Roman Catholic school, in Pages Lane, picked up the Transport for London Sustainable Level Accreditation Award for their commitment to environmentally-friendly travel, the Haringey Independent has reported.
