NAHT calls for more business managers

More school business managers and business directors are needed to tackle procurement blunders, the general secretary of the national association of head teachers has said according to Education Executive.

Responding to claims that schools were wasting money following bad business management, Mick Brookes said that heads' should not be asked to make financial decisions as their responsibility is to lead teaching and learning.

"We need to get school business directors and school business managers in place to take away from heads these types of tasks," Mr Brookes was quoted as saying by the publication.

His comments came after Claire Dicks, assistant director of the educational procurement centre at the DCSF, said schools are getting tied into rolling contracts that can end up incurring huge costs.

In other news, the government has announced plans to hire about 1,000 school bursars in the next four years to help primary schools save up to £30,000 a year, according to the Daily Telegraph.
