Blackburn teacher wins top award

A maths faith school teacher in Blackburn has been given the Teacher of the Year prize in the first ever Association of Muslim Schools UK awards, a local news report has said.

According to The Citizen, Nusrat Mohammed of Islamiyah school, Willow street, won the award at a conference in a Leicester school.

"She is not just a brilliant teacher but also a wonderful colleague," head teacher Zarina Seedat was quoted as saying by the publication.
The maths teacher has been teaching the subject at Islamiyah School for the last eight years.

More than 400 teachers and members of the association attended the conference while the Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by Tauheedul Islam Girls School, received the majority of the nominations.

In other news, Mill Water, a special needs school in Devon, has won the gold award for singing from Sing Up! - a national singing scheme as part of the Music Manifesto.
