Dyslexia training for teachers
May 07 2010
The Dyslexia and Special Learning Difficulties Trust is calling on schools to sign up to a government-funded training course in dyslexia for teachers.
The charity has launched the See the Difference campaign after the government allocated £10 million to train 4,000 educational staff as part of a drive to help pupils facing learning difficulties.
Campaigners say they want to see every school make the most of this opportunity, noting that the money is available only for a limited period of time.
According to the charity, teachers have up to March 2011 to sign up for the course.
In other news, the efforts of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to improve the quality of school meals have helped pupils to achieve better results, recent figures have revealed.
The Healthy School Meals and Educational Outcomes study has said that Oliver's campaign, which was launched in Greenwich schools in 2004, raised the percentage of students scoring level four in English by up to six percentage points.
