Somerset pupils try new sports in healthy schools event

Hundreds of Somerset pupils and parents took part in an action-packed activity event on May 26, a local news report has said.

According to This Is The West Country, Chard's Hollyrood community school hosted Healthy Schools Plus, a government initiative aiming to promote healthy lifestyle choices for pupils.

The event, which was put together as a joint venture between ten local schools, gave children and their parents a chance to try new activities, including golf, tennis, climbing, dancing, Tai Chi and yoga.

"The idea behind the event was to encourage families to get active and show them how much choice there is available," Holyrood deputy head teacher Julie Turner, who helped plan the event, was quoted as saying by the publication.

She added that if the event becomes a success, organisers will look at making it an annual happening.

In other news, cyclists from South West Bike Academy will visit several secondary schools in Exeter this summer to speak to pupils about the benefits of cycling, This is Exeter has said.
