Scottish teachers to get extra training day
June 08 2010
Teachers in Scotland are to benefit from an extra day of training during the next academic year, it has been revealed.
According to the government, this will help them to deliver the new Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), which is due to be rolled out from August.
Education secretary Michael Russell commented: "I have said all along that we will do whatever we can to support teachers during implementation. The extra in-service day I am giving to teachers will enable them to address specific issues in their own school."
He noted that the CfE will improve the education of students across Scotland and equip them with the skills they need for the 21st century.
However, a spokesman for Scottish Labour told the BBC that providing teachers with a training day after the new curriculum has been introduced is "too little, too late".
Des McNulty described the move as a panic measure and claimed that Scottish youngsters will be treated as guinea pigs.
