Parents 'work to save Edinburgh school'

Parents of students at St Margaret's School in Newington, Edinburgh, have drawn up a plan of action to save it from closure.

The private school went into administration last week and is due to close its doors on June 29th, with staff and parents informed by email on Thursday (June 10th).

A group of parents have come up with a proposal to save the school and are due to meet liquidators KPMG in the near future.

Speaking to The Herald, Parents and Friends Association member Pete Coachrane said: "The strategy is to raise fees slightly, cut costs and raise equity through the sale of some assets. We have to acknowledge that the school has been losing money year in, year out for the past few years."

According to Amy Schofield, editor of mychild.co.uk, parents can be an incredible force for good when it comes to schools and can bring about change by getting involved and becoming governors.
