Students take part in world record safety event

Pupils from the north-west of England took part in a world record attempt earlier this week in a bid to promote road safety.

Youngsters from Clarksfield Primary and Yew Tree Community School joined forces to create a walking bus and attract the attention of local motorists, the Oldham Evening Chronicle reports.

The event was organised by road safety charity Brake in a bid to highlight the number of children that are injured in road traffic accidents every year.

"You never know when a child might make a mistake and run out and slower driving could save their life. Brake urges all communities to support the Giant Walking Bus by slowing down today, tomorrow and for ever," said Mary Williams, the organisation's chief executive.

In other news, youngsters from Devon made the headlines earlier this week when it was revealed that they were incorporating the World Cup football tournament in their lessons.

Pupils at Honiton Primary School have been making creative collages, learning about the countries involved and even calculating stadium capacity in maths.
