Pupils give views on new Scottish curriculum
June 22 2010
Schoolchildren in Scotland have been invited to give their views on the country's new Curriculum for Excellence.
A group of 16 pupils were invited to voice their opinions during a number of workshops held earlier this month, Newsnet Scotland reports.
Jade Davies, a student at New Stevenston Primary School, said she is looking forward to the opportunity to explore subjects in more depth.
Meanwhile, Ross Howle of Brannock High School said pupils should be given more choice over what they learn and how it is taught.
Teacher Willie Douglas voiced his support for the new curriculum, saying it offers more flexibility.
"For example in product design and manufacture there are things we have to teach for exams, but pupils could pick what we make, so long as we covered the essential learning points," he explained.
It was revealed earlier this month that teachers in Scotland are to benefit from an extra training day next year in order to get to grips with the new programme.
