Councillors 'considering £1.4m scheme for deprived Scottish border schools'
June 23 2010
Councillors in the Borders are considering proposals for the introduction of a new scheme to help some of the area's most deprived schools.
According to the BBC, Scottish Borders Council (SBC) will look at the scheme that would see allocations to schools based on the Borders Deprivation Index.
"The plans would see the redistribution of a little more than £1.4 million which was formerly part of the National Priorities Fund and other targeted budgets," the news provider stated.
Catriona Bhatia, SBC executive member for education, said the aim of the proposal is to improve life chances for 20 per cent of students that are currently underachieving in the Scottish Borders.
In related news, pupils in Scotland were invited to give their views on the country's new Curriculum for Excellence earlier this week.
A group of 16 students were given the opportunity to voice their options during a series of workshops.
