Interview 'is chance for graduate teachers to demonstrate enthusiasm'

Graduate teachers have been offered some interview advice by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

Alexandra Walker-McClimens, a media relations officer at the organisation, said it is important that candidates are properly prepared.

"The interview is a chance to demonstrate the subject knowledge, skills, enthusiasm and commitment newly qualified teachers (NQTs) have to offer the teaching and learning of their chosen age range and, if secondary, their chosen subject," she commented.

Ms Walker-McClimens noted that NQTs may be required to take a portfolio with them, containing notes from their time at university and on placement.

She pointed out that graduate teachers will find tips and support on the TDA website, as well as an interactive interview feature.

Speaking last week, Duncan Woodhead from teaching union the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, said people should make the most of the experience they gain during their teacher training period.
