Balfour Beatty 'to revamp Oldham schools'
June 29 2010
Construction group Balfour Beatty has been named as Oldham Council's preferred bidder for its Building Schools for the Future programme.
The contract is worth up to £175 million and involves the delivery of several new buildings, as well as upgrades to existing schools.
Work will commence in January 2011, with the construction of the new-build Oldham Roman Catholic School, followed by the partial rebuild and remodelling of North Chadderton School.
"We look forward to developing a local education partnership with the council and Partnerships for Schools to deliver excellent design and value for all schools in the programme, as well as maximising the economic benefit to the borough," said Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler.
It was announced last week that the company has also been appointed as the preferred bidder for Derby's Building Schools for the Future Programme, a scheme that involves the design and construction or refurbishment of 14 schools across the city.
