Teachers 'should have helpline access'

Teachers should have access to a special helpline if they have to deal with disruptive pupils, it has been suggested.

A report compiled by the Education and Training Inspectorate recommended that teachers have this support put in place, the BBC reports.

"Cyber-bullying was also an issue for some. An inordinate amount of staff time is spent in some schools managing disruptive behaviours and this impacts on the learning experiences of other pupils," said chief inspector Stanley Goudie.

He noted that strategies need to be in place to help teachers dealing with complex behavioural problems.

Local authorities in Stirling recently announced plans to set aside £130,000 of funding to help local teachers deal with low-level classroom disruption.

According to the Stirling Observer, the money will be used to offer support and training to teaching staff facing this issue.

Local councillor Callum Campbell said low-level classroom disruption can be a major barrier to learning.
