Olympic legends encourage kids to try new sports

Sporting heroes including Sir Chris Hoy, Jonathan Edwards, Denise Lewis, Ade Adepitan and Gail Emms have been visiting schools around the UK in a bid to encourage children to try Olympic and Paralympic sports for the first time.

Youngsters were being given this opportunity as part of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, which ran from June 28th to July 2nd.

Special activities took place in a number of cities, including Bristol, London and Cardiff.
"Sport is a fantastic way of encouraging kids to get involved in something really constructive, achieve and get fit at the same time," said Tim Loughlan MP, one of the politicians who attended the events.

The UK's biggest-ever school sport initiative, it involves around five million children, with the public invited to help their local school win £20,000 worth of equipment by signing up and showing their support at www.lloydstsb.com/london2012.

Sir Chris was last month involved in the launch of School Sport Week Scotland.
Speaking at the time, the gold medal winner said he hoped children will be inspired to go on and achieve great things in the future.
