DfE unveils draft Structural Reform Plan

The Department for Education (DfE) has published its Draft Structural Reform Plan, outlining its key priorities for the years ahead.

Ministers are inviting the public to hold them to account on the delivery of their promises.

"We need to reform our education system if we are to reverse the decline in the performance of our education system relative to our international competitors and to ensure that every pupil gets a better chance," the DfE stated.

The department claimed that the new coalition government aims to make the UK's state education system the best in the world.

It added that the DfE is committed to spending more on the country's poorest children.

Speaking to the Reform thinktank earlier this week, Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP said it is important that every child receives a good standard of education whatever their background.

He said the government's policies will be guided by the principals of freedom, fairness and responsibility.
