Sex education 'should be job of parents'
July 23 2010
It should be up to parents to teach their children about sex education, not teachers.
This is the opinion of Nick Seaton, chairman for the Campaign for Real Education, who said it is much better for mothers and fathers to discuss these issues with youngsters than teachers.
His comments come after a recent Ofsted report revealed that many education professionals have insufficient subject knowledge when it comes to this, resulting in dull lessons.
Furthermore, it was noted that some teachers find it embarrassing to hold sex education lessons.
"I think one of the problems is that schools are sort of trying to engage pupils with a lot things before they are old enough to understand it or be much interested in it," Mr Seaton commented.
He added that it is better to talk about sensitive issues on a one-to-one basis, rather than in a class environment and in public.
