Schools 'willing to pay for good quality staff'
July 26 2010
Schools are willing to pay out to get hold of high-quality professionals in teaching jobs, a headteacher has said.
It has been revealed that schools in Leicester spent almost ?5 million in the past financial year on paying for supply teachers, with the Forest Lodge primary school the highest spender in this area.
The school spent around ?135,000 during 2009-2010, reports the Leicester Mercury.
Karen Cane, the head of Forest Lodge, said this was necessary so permanent members of staff could go on training programmes.
"When you're talking about best value for money, you have to pay to get good quality staff ? and yes, I think it's money well spent," she stated.
Earlier this month, Libby Steele, head of education at the Royal Society, said that more maths and science graduates should be encouraged into a teaching career.
She said that having good-quality people in such posts will help the UK's students to be prepared for a future where technology and science are very important.
