Peterborough school to get green overhaul
July 28 2010
Teaching personnel at a school in Peterborough are to see their working environment overhauled to allow it to reduce its carbon footprint.
Work has begun on a new construction project at John Clare Primary School in Helpston, which will involve the creation of an extension, as well as two new buildings, reports Lynn News.
The initiative has been organised by the local authority's property design and maintenance team and children's services department and will involve the use of sustainably-sourced materials, low-energy lighting and roof-based plants for insulation.
Heating will be provided by the school's biomass wood pellet boiler, the first of its kind to be installed at a school in the region.
Once completed, the work will mean that the educational facility can boast one of the lowest carbon emission rates of any school in East Anglia.
Earlier this month, Green Building Press reported that Rogiet Primary School in Monmouthshire was recently awarded a BREEAM sustainability rating of 78.18 per cent, the highest ever awarded to a school.
