Over 360,000 children suspended from school

New figures have shown that there classroom behaviour is still a problem for those teaching in England.

According to the Telegraph, data from the Department of Education has shown that there were over 360,000 schoolchildren suspended from education for their behaviour in the 2008/2009 academic year.

Some 86,000 of the suspensions were handed out for attacks on classmates and teachers, while 3,400 were given for sexual misconduct, the statistics revealed.

However, the number represents a drop from the previous year's figures.

Schools minister Nick Gibb told the newspaper: "Despite the fall in exclusions, poor behaviour remains a significant problem in our schools. Tackling poor behaviour and raising academic standards are key priorities for the coalition government."

The Bury Times recently reported that the city is home to the highest rates of pupil expulsion in the UK, with 0.24 per cent children - more than double the national average ? being dismissed from school.
