Male and female pupils 'should be taught separately'

Boys and girls develop at different rates and should be taught separately, it has been claimed.

Alison Morris, editor of MyDaughter.co.uk, noted that a number of studies have concluded that boys do not walk and talk as early as girls.

"Both genders' learning styles are also very different. Boys prefer more active teaching methods, benefiting from hands-on, practical lessons, but they are also the most adventurous learners and less fearful of making mistakes," she commented.

Ms Morris noted that girls are more likely to be careful, tentative and eager to please.

A recent study by the British Educational Research Association revealed that female primary school pupils believe they are cleverer and better-behaved than their counterparts by the age of four.

Furthermore, it was found that most boys also believe this by the time they are eight.

According to Ms Morris, this study is another argument for teaching boys and girls separately.
