Schools optimistic on ICT despite cuts
September 30 2010
Schools are optimistic about their future information and communications technology (ICT) development despite the threat of government funding cuts.
Teachers have a positive outlook, according to the British Educational Suppliers Association's (BESA) ICT in UK State Schools survey.
More than half of primary and secondary schools said they were likely to maintain their planned ICT investments for the next year, despite the government's withdrawal of funding.
The research, which was carried out in conjunction with the National Education Research Panel, also showed that more schools feel well resourced in terms of digital content than in previous years.
Furthermore, many expect continuing improvements this year.
"Despite schools being faced with many financial pressures, the survey indicates schools are managing the cuts sensibly and with optimism," said Ray Barker, director of BESA.
"This is in part due to the efficient procurement of resources by many schools as well as a drop in prices of individual units."
However, school libraries are not being used to their full potential, according to a report by the School Library Commission.
