Students missing millions of lessons for term time holidays

Approximately 31 million lessons are missed each year by children taking term time holidays, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by Sunshine.co.uk found that 16 per cent of youngsters took a break during school time over the last 12 months.
Although 78 per cent of parents informed their children's school, 22 per cent failed to do so.
Commenting on the findings, the company's co-founder said: "I can see why it's tempting for some parents to book a holiday during term time, as prices are admittedly much lower than in the peak of the summer holidays. However, thinking outside the box slightly can provide an alternative."
He added that parents can save money by holidaying during the October and February half term breaks.
A study published earlier this year by Tesco found that one in six parents have lied to their child's school in order to escape abroad during term time.
