Gloucester primary pupils learn outdoors

Pupils at one primary school in Gloucestershire have been taking part in extra special reading lessons.

Youngsters at Widden Primary School swapped their usual classroom for tents as they went outdoors to read, the Gloucester Citizen reports.

Camping equipment has been donated to the school by Go Outdoors in a bid to encourage pupils to spend more time outside in the fresh air.

Tents were positioned across the playground and children were given the opportunity to curl up with a book.

Headteacher Tim Cooper told the newspaper: "They have been used to enhance the children's reading experience and they are absolutely loving them.

"They can just take a book and go and read it in the tent. It is all part of their outdoor learning work."

In related news, pupils at St Rose's Special School in Gloucestershire will also be spending more time outdoors now, thanks to the creation of a new £70,000 sensory garden.

The facility was opened last week by Olympic gold medallist Steve Williams.
