Schoolchildren urged to make New Year promises

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has launched a new project encouraging schoolchildren to make New Year's resolutions.

Entitled Resolution Revolution, the initiative is supported by a website where youngsters can make their pledges and return with updates, the Guardian reports.

Some of the resolutions suggested by the BHA include accompanying a relative to a museum or gallery, cleaning the bathroom at home and teaching a younger sibling how to play a sport.

The organisation is keen for classes to take part in the project and has created materials to help teachers, including certificates and badges.

"Resolution Revolution catches a current vogue for social thinking. We hope it will build to become an annual boost to a more connected society where volunteering, responsibility and concern for others are part of everyday life," a spokesman for the BHA said.

The BHA was established more than 100 years ago and has over 20,000 members.
