Welsh education minister opens new school
December 17 2010
Welsh education minister Leighton Andrews has opened a new school at Ysgol Maes y Morfa in Llanelli.
The shell of the old school was retained. However, £4.9 million was spent on building an interior fit for the 21st century.
Mr Andrews said the Welsh Assembly Government is committed to creating the right learning environment for children.
"As well as awarding £4.9million in capital funding to provide pupils and teachers with the latest in technology and exceptional play facilities, we have also awarded over £140,000 for Flying Start equipment and office equipment," he commented.
It is the fourth new school to be built in Llanelli in recent years.
In other news, Mr Andrews this week urged pupils to read a little every day.
He noted that opening a book for just ten minutes can make a big difference.
