Royal Institution plans inspirational children's centre

The Royal Institution has announced plans to build a new science centre to inspire interest in the subject among young people.
Plans for the centre were backed by the incoming head of the organisation David Porter, whose application for the position was focused on his desire to promote interest in the sciences.
Mr Porter famously failed his physics A-level on his first attempt, but worked arduously to achieve grades that enabled him to begin a physics BSc. Aged 31, he earned a place at Oxford University to study teaching.
"The whole purpose of the Royal Institution is to communicate science to the public and young people – I really wanted the job and I think that shone through," he told the Guardian.
As part of its commitment to promoting interest in the sciences among young people, the Royal Institution hosts drop-in days and demonstrations for families on the first Saturday of every month.
