Police card scheme rolled out in Cornish schools

A new initiative has been launched in Cornwall in a bid to improve relations between schoolchildren and the police.

Pupils from schools in places such as Cubert, Goonhavern and Perranporth have been provided with sticker albums to fill with 'cop cards' that can be collected from local officers, the Western Morning News reports.

Youngsters have until March to complete their albums, with officers hoping that the exercise will give children greater insight into the job that police do.

Contstable Sarah Pinder, a neighbourhood beat manager from Perranporth, told the news provider: "Children have been calling at the Perranporth station wanting to see the officers. It's nice to get involved in these projects because it breaks down barriers between us and local people."

In related news, officers from Staffordshire Police attended a special citizenship day at Painsly Catholic College in Cheadle last week to talk to students about the impact of problems such as drug misuse and trafficking, the Sentinel reports.
