Schoolchildren fundraise for RSPCA
January 27 2011
Children at a school in Bath swapped their school uniform for more unusual attire this week when they dressed as animals to raise money for the RSPCA.
Pupils at Neston Primary School paid £1 to turn into cats and dogs for the day, raising £250 for the charity in total.
In addition, more than 100 cans of pet food were collected and handed over to the RSPCA, the Bath Chronicle reports.
Headteacher Linda Davies said staff members also came in fancy dress, with one teacher spending the day as a dragon.
The fundraising day was organised by a group of year six pupils.
Commenting on their efforts, Ms Davies told the newspaper: "I was really impressed by the girls. They came to talk to me about it and make sure it was an OK thing to do.
"Another class had raised money back in the summer for Dorothy House and then a lot of the ideas came from the children."
In related news, students at a Devon primary school also dressed up this week, wearing Victorian clothing for a history lesson.
The youngsters at Wolborough Church of England Primary School in Newton Abbot also swapped their exercise books for slates and chalk.
