New school planned for Peterborough

Peterborough City Council is planning to open a new primary school to accommodate the rising number of pupils in the area.

The £7.5 million school would be located on Clayburn Road and could provide places for up to 400 youngsters, Peterborough Today reports.

Local councillor John Holdich told the publication: "There is a need for additional primary school places and community sports and library facilities in Hampton.

"The most cost-effective way of delivering these services is on one site."

He noted that the council is at a very early stage in the planning process at present.

"At this stage we want to inform people of our intentions to provide a primary school at this site and the process this will take," Mr Holdich added.

"We also want to ask people for their opinions on what kind of school the community requires."

In related news, it was revealed earlier this week that a £2.5 million extension is to be built at the nearby Paston Ridings Primary School.

This will increase the school's student capacity from £420 t0 £630.
