Teaching in Scotland 'to benefit from new buildings'
September 30 2009
Teaching in Scotland could be set to benefit from the introduction of new learning establishments, as 14 new buildings have been commissioned.
As part of a £1.25 billion spending programme, a group of secondary schools in the country will see new buildings be created, the Times reports.
Confirming the new building plans, Scottish education secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "There has been no interruption in the school building programme. We said we would match the previous administration's plans brick for brick and we have done."
However, opposition parties have criticised the move, arguing that not enough progress has been made in the building of new schools for those teaching in Scotland.
Not enough has been done by the governing party to develop new educational establishments, opposition leaders have said.
A range of new schools have also been built in England in recent years, under the government's Building Schools for the Future initiative.
