Bath youngsters get creative

Pupils at a primary school in Bath got in touch with their creative sides this week when they took part in a special learning day.

The children from Twerton Infant School took a break from their regular lessons to try their hand at everything from pottery to cookery, the Bath Chronicle reports.

Headteacher Paul Mattausch-Burrows said the school wanted to give students the opportunity to enjoy more explorative learning.

"This has now become the way we work with the children in all the subjects, other than numeracy and literacy, although we are now seeing how we can introduce the idea into those types of learning," he told the publication.

"It is particularly good for those pupils who might struggle to focus during a more rigid lesson.

"The whole school was involved with this creative learning day and we mixed the age groups up so they were all working together."

In other Bath education news, the city's first academy has opened.

Oldfield School is now co-educational and reports directly to the Department for Education rather than the local authority.
