Pupils take sporting equipment to Africa

A group of pupils from Stoke-on-Trent College are swapping their regular lessons for an exciting trip to South Africa this month.
The students are travelling out there as part of an 11-day excursion organised through the Challenge South Africa Programme and the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation, the Sentinel reports.
As well as learning about the nation's culture and history, the teenagers will be handing out sports equipment to local schools.
Calvin Austin, a learner involvement co-ordinator at Stoke-on-Trent College, told the publication: "The trip is a brilliant opportunity for our students to work together towards something they care about.
"They have all shown great enthusiasm and commitment to raising the necessary funds."
In other Staffordshire education news, Walton High School is inviting members of the public to attend its community science event next month.
