Staffordshire students create wildlife garden

Pupils from Leek High Specialist Technology School have joined forces with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to create a community garden.

The students hope to attract local wildlife and have planted a willow hedge, as well as creating a pond, the Sentinel reports.

Martin Evans, a youth officer from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, told the newspaper: "The Wildlife Trust has been working in partnership with Leek High for the past 12 months helping them with advice on how to grow vegetables and fruit.

"We aim to promote growing organically as much as possible and by encouraging wildlife into the garden we are creating a natural form of pest control."

The garden was created with the help of a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Elsewhere, pupils from the nearby Northwood Broom Community Infants' School are set to exhibit sculptures they have created in Northwood Park next week.
