Teachers 'increasing use of technology'
February 23 2011
An increasing number of teachers are using technology in the classroom, new research suggests.
A study by Netgear found that 58 per cent of teachers use IT in every lesson, Education Executive reports.
Furthermore, 77 per cent of those polled said technology has led to a rise in classroom interaction.
Paul Donovan, a spokesman for the organisation, said the role of IT at school has changed in recent years.
"As opposed to simply providing teachers and students with computers, schools must now think about how they can make the most of technology in the broadest sense," he commented.
"If teachers want to spark some creativity into their lessons through social media, for instance, or if students hope to engage with the curriculum from home on their own laptops, then how does the school make this a possibility in a secure, reliable fashion?"
Speaking earlier this year, Steve Bonnick of Toucan Computing said schools must rise to the challenge of incorporating handheld devices such as smartphones and iPods into classes.
