Cornish pupils raise money for African charity

Pupils from one Cornwall school have raised more than £350 for charity.

Children attending the Bishop's School were sponsored to do household chores to fundraise for Tanzania-based organisation Tukae, the Cornish Guardian reports.

The pupils, who have been learning about Africa all year, were visited by a representative of the charity.

In addition, youngsters were given the opportunity to dress up as animals from the continent, with students swapping their uniforms for lion and crocodile costumes.

Headteacher Joanne Osborne told the newspaper: "It was a strange sight to see herds of giraffes and zebra in the school. The children had a brilliant time and made a presentation on their countries in a special assembly. I learned lots of things I never knew before."

In other Cornish education news, pupils from St Columb Minor School collected almost £500 for international charity Unicef.
