Annual school run raises ?30,000

Pupils at a school in Croydon have managed to raise a whopping £30,000 for good causes.

Youngsters from Shrewsbury House, Surbiton, generated the cash through a sponsored run, completing as many laps of an 800-metre course as possible in 20 minutes, the Croydon Guardian reports.

The money will be divided between several charitable organisations, including Momentum and Dysart.

"The annual sponsored run lived up to its reputation for being one of the highlights of the year in the school calendar," headteacher Kevin Doble told the newspaper.

"The commitment of the participating staff and pupils was well encouraged by the enthusiastic support of the many spectators who joined us for the afternoon."

Elsewhere, pupils from Bishop's School in Cornwall were celebrating this week after raising more than £350 for African charity Takae.

The children carried out sponsored household chores and tasks to generate the funds.
