Teacher swaps Cranmore school for Kenya classroom

A Somerset teacher is set to swap his regular class for a remote Kenyan school later this month when he travels to Africa on a six-week exchange.

David Ellery, a French teacher from All Hallows Preparatory School, will be travelling to a school in Sang'a, a remote part of Kenya, the Journal reports.

All Hallows has been raising money for the school and establishing links with the community in recent years.

"Through these opportunities, we hope that the realities of life for the Sang'a children will become much more vivid for our pupils in the very different world of All Hallows," he told the newspaper.

Students in the UK will have the opportunity to communicate via Skype with pupils in Kenya, among other things.

Elsewhere, two pupils from the nearby North Radstock College have been selected to visit a former concentration camp in Poland as part of a scheme aimed at raising awareness about genocide.
