Louth students to get new art and design block

Work is now underway on a new art and design block at the King Edward VI Grammar School in Grimsby.

The state-of-the-art £400,000 facility is being funded by Lincolnshire County Council and a capital development grant from the Department for Education, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.

Deputy headteacher Mark Hunkin told the newspaper: "The school grew from a 14 to 18 school to an 11 to 18 school and there was enough accommodation, but it was spread out throughout the whole school.

"Some of the classes are in bedrooms of former Georgian town houses or former servants quarters.

"This is the first phase in the rationalisation, starting with the art department and continuing with English, maths, science, geography and history."

Elsewhere, pupils at the nearby Cleethorpes Primary School took part in a fire safety workshop this month, learning how to plan escape routes and prevent blazes.
