Leicester school recognised for health promotion work

Pupils and staff at one Leicester school were celebrating this week after receiving a healthy school award.

Queensmead Community Primary School in Braunstone is thought to be the 100th school in the area to be recognised in this way, the Leicester Mercury reports.

The school was presented with the award by John Whitby, the city's project co-ordinator for healthy schools.

Headteacher Andrew Clarke said the school is delighted to be recognised in this way.

"Our children are making exceptional progress in their understanding of being healthy and this award recognises the massive improvements being made at our school," he told the publication.

"Our school promotes healthy eating, lunch boxes, drinking water, while walk to school week and bike weeks are helping healthier lifestyles."

Elsewhere, staff and pupils at Humberstone Junior School were also celebrating this week.

The school received a 'good' rating from Ofsted, having previously been placed in special measures by the government.
