Welsh youngsters draw out artistic talents

Welsh primary school pupils have created an exciting and colourful display with the help of teachers and students from the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff.

The theme of this year's display was 'disguise' and work completed by the youngsters is now on display across campus.

Isabelle Nash, a teacher at St Mary's RC School in Canton, which was involved in the initiative, commented: "It's great to have expertise coming into a primary school and to let children have the experience of the knowledge and understanding of art and creativity.

"For them to have the time out of the curriculum to develop a project from start to finish is a special chance for them. It works so well every year. They are thrilled at seeing their work again which is fantastic."

In other Welsh news, education minister Leighton Andrews has called for a review of the GCSE and A-level subjects on offer to pupils.

He said there has been an "explosion" in the number of subjects being taught in recent years.
