Teacher rewarded following recovery

A sports teacher who was paralysed following an accident while he was on holiday in Spain last year has recently been rewarded for his ongoing sports teaching.
Darren Mitchell, a PE teacher at Bradfield College in Bradfield, completed a rehabilitation programme at Stoke Madeville hospital in Buckinghamshire and returned to work in a period of 11 months after his accident, which left him with a broken neck.
Aside from teaching pupils at the school, Mr Mitchell, 26, has gone on to be selected for the GB Wheelchair Rugby Elite Squad, taking part in an international tournament in Brazil.
"Winning the award was fantastic after everything that's gone on in the last 12 months. It's great for me and it's great for Bradfield College too," local news provider Newbury Today quotes Mr Mitchell as saying.
He added that if the school had not given him such support he would not still be teaching PE and would not have won the award.
Mr Mitchell is currently in training to take part in the Paralympics, which come to London in 2012.
