Government 'working to improve standards'

The government has confirmed it is working closely with local authorities in Cornwall to improve standards in children's services in the duchy.
Children's minister Dawn Primarolo said that an Ofsted report highlighting weaknesses in children's services in Cornwall is worrying.
"Keeping children safe is our top priority and we will not hesitate to act where children's safety may be at risk," she said.
Ms Primarolo added that the government will "act swiftly" when evidence shows a local authority is failing to deliver services to an acceptable level.
She added that she will take whatever action necessary to ensure that children and young people in Cornwall remain safe.
Earlier this month, Cornwall Council highlighted the steps it is taking to help those with learning disabilities through an event at the Eden Project. The event formed the official launch of the Valuing People Now strategy, which offers a range of educational and support services to those with learning disabilities.
