Midlands pupils 'beating the bullies'

A programme of competitions, campaigns and activities is helping Nottingham school children fight back against bullying, it has been reported.

The Nottingham Evening Post claims local schools are marking national Anti-Bullying Week by taking part in a school bus campaign, introducing new anti-abuse policies and a poster competition.

Targeting the Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark districts of the city, the initiative aims to encourage pupils to report bullying to teachers.

Around 960 youngsters entered the poster competition, reports the Post, with eight winning designs selected for national distribution in schools and youth clubs.

The theme for this year's event is cyberbullying and an Actionworks theatre roadshow will visit schools to perform their anti-bullying play Cyber Scream.

According to organisers, the show explores how technology can help young people express their feelings rather than oppress their peers.

Performers invite children in the audience to suggest how bullying can be confronted while discussing its causes.
