To tweet or not to tweet?

Teachers could benefit from using Twitter as an experiment into the social media site has suggested that students are benefiting from its use, ThisisLeicestershire.co.uk reports.

The report cites a study by the University of Leicester which found students are engaging with Twitter in many ways.

"Searches show a growing volume of conversation between existing students, across institutional boundaries and from prospective students, commenting on perceptions of the university and higher education in general," Dr Alan Cann, who led the study at the University of Leicester, was quoted as saying by ThisisLeicestershire.co.uk.

Students were tweeting to help each other with coursework or revision, the study, by the Association for Learning Technology, found.

There are other tools available online as well. The Times Education Supplement (TES) has published a list of the best resources to help teachers encourage their pupils to think. Among the suggestions, TES suggests lateral thinking puzzles designed to help pupils ages seven to 11 on how to think strategically.
